NAACP Fights Charter Schools: MyFoxNY.com
The NAACP has entered the fray over charter schools in New York by joining a suit by the teachers’ union.
The United Federation of Teachers is suing the New York City Department of Education. They are protesting the co-location of charter schools inside public school buildings. The NAACP says it’s a form of segregation.
One African-American charter school founder says that it ridiculous.
Rafiq Kalam Id-Din II is a managing partner of Teaching firms of America-Professional Preparatory Charter School in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant section.
He says that if the DOE losses the lawsuit, his school will not be allowed to open. He says the NAACP should be shamed for its position.
Id-Din says,, “I am the product of public education, a direct beneficiary of Brown. It is shocking to see the NAACP now stand with the multibillion-dollar UFT, and condemn a publicly funded implementation of the very strategy it pioneered.”
